ROME (AP) — A car plowed into pedestrians in the northern Italian city of Modena on Saturday, injuring eight people, two of them critically, the mayor told Italian TV.
Mayor Massimo Mezzetti said no one was killed but two victims were in very serious condition. He said a woman pinned against a shop window may require the amputation of both legs.
The driver was a man described by witnesses in his 30s. He was detained and is being questioned at police headquarters as authorities work to determine whether he was under the influence of substances or acted deliberately, the mayor said.
