The Los Angeles Rams and Miami Dolphins agreed to a player-for-player trade Thursday, sending veteran wide receiver Tutu Atwell back to Los Angeles in exchange for second-year running back Jarquez Hunter. The move reunites Atwell with the organization that selected him in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft after he briefly departed to sign with Miami in free agency earlier this offseason.
Atwell spent five seasons in Los Angeles under head coach Sean McVay, recording 105 receptions for 1,535 yards and five touchdowns during his initial stint. His return bolsters depth in the Rams’ receiving corps, joining a group featuring Davante Adams, Puka Nacua, Jordan Whittington, Konata Mumpfield, and rookie C.J. Daniels.
In exchange, Miami receives Hunter, a 5-foot-9, 204-pound tailback out of Auburn. Drafted by the Rams in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Hunter appeared in five games as a rookie, playing primarily on special teams. He entered the conversation for broader backfield work following a strong preseason showing against the New Orleans Saints, where he recorded 68 rushing yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.
The trade addresses roster adjustments for both franchises as the preseason concludes. Los Angeles gains familiarity and depth in the passing attack, while Miami adds a young running back option to its offensive rotation.
