A motorcade carrying former U.S. President Jimmy Carter’s remains travels on Jan. 4 from the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center through his hometown of Plains and then to the Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta, Georgia, where he will lie in repose for mourners to pay their respects until Jan. 7. Before arriving at the Carter Presidential Center, the motorcade will make a stop at the State Capitol, where Gov. Brian Kemp and local officials will observe a moment of silence to honor the former president.
