Donovan Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to terms of a new three-year, $150.5 million maximum contract extension, including a player option for the 2027-28 season (per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski).

Mitchell, 27, was under contract for one more season; the new deal means he can become a free agent in three years, and also allows Mitchell to reach 10-year criteria, making him eligible for a next extension worth $380 million.

Mitchell has been an All-Star in five straight seasons and averaged 26.6 points in the 2023-24 season — joining only LeBron James in franchise history to do so in multiple seasons. According to ESPN Stats & Information research, Mitchell had 89 points in Games 6 and 7 of an opening-round playoff series victory over the Orlando Magic, second most in NBA postseason history for Games 6 and 7. Mitchell is also the first guard to average a minimum of 20 points in each of his first seven NBA seasons since Allen Iverson.

Last season, Mitchell posted 26.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 46.2% overall and 36.8% on 3-pointers; and scored a Cavs franchise-record 71 points in the 2022-23 season against the Chicago Bulls.
