All-star guard Tyrese Maxey agrees to 5-year, $204M extension with Philadelphia 76ers

All-star point guard Tyrese Maxey confirmed that he’s agreed to a five-year, $204 million contract extension with the Philadelphia 76ers. The move comes shortly after the 76ers agreed to a $212 million deal with Paul George early Monday morning. Maxey, 23, played on a $4.3 million team option last season. He is now under contract through the 2028-29 campaign.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the news on X, writing: “ESPN Sources: Philadelphia 76ers All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey has agreed in principle on a five-year, $204 million maximum contract extension.”

Maxey wrote on X and Instagram, while sharing the details of his new contract: “LEAVE NO DOUBT! 🙏🏾🙏🏾 1 % EVERYDAY!”; his agent Rich Paul wrote: “🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽, couldn’t happen for a better person @TyreseMaxey !! #KlutchSportsGroup”

Maxey, the No. 21 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, received Most Improved Player honors in 2023-24 when he averaged career-highs in points (25.9), assists (6.2), rebounds (3.7), steals (1.0) and blocks (0.5) per game over 70 starts. He averaged 18.2 points, 4.1 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game through his first 266 appearances in the NBA. becoming a full-time starter in 2021-22.

Maxey averaged a career-high 25.9 points per game while making his first All-Star team and winning the NBA’s Most Improved Player award, and then in the postseason, he averaged 29.8 points per game against the New York Knicks.
