The University of Alabama announced on Monday that head coach Nick Saban has agreed to an extension, keeping the legendary football coach under contract through the 2028 season. Saban said in a news release:  “Terry [my wife] and I are pleased and happy to sign another contract extension that will keep us in Tuscaloosa through the end of our career. Our family calls Tuscaloosa and the state of Alabama home. It’s a place where our roots now run deep.”

The 69-year-old Saban won his first title in 2004 at LSU, and since 2007, he has led the Crimson Tide to another six national titles. Saban has passed former Alabama Paul “Bear” Bryant for the most national titles – seven – in history when he led the Crimson Tide to a win over Ohio State in the College Football Playoff National Championship game Jan. 11 in Miami Gardens, Fla. The Crimson Tide are 170-23 in 14 seasons under Saban. The team tied a record with six players picked in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Saban will receive a base salary and talent fee of $8.425 million next season, that will increase annually throughout the length of the contract. Saban will receive an additional $800,000 at the end of the season from 2022 through 2025.
